Is this the new 40 Acres and Mule?

Spike's body of work (sans NY Knicks sideline clowism) grants him a serious pass while the jury deliberates on the meaning of this association. Is this that new enterprising capitalism that we see so many 'urban' cats embrace today, or has Spike sold out to the man. At face value, Im not averse to Spike's art and filmographic directing of the campaign. This commercial most def has the bk vibe; so mission accomplished. My gut is that Absolut wanted a real Brooklynite to rep the borough-centric product. I guess Mos Def wasnt available and Jay-z was too expensive.

The debate of course walks along that subtle line that questions the point/motive of hawking products such as alcohol and tobacco in the'hood'. Crown Fried Chicken franchisers need not apply. Those cats (a population that includes me at times) will most certainly ponder why Spike didnt direct a campaign for 'getting learnded' or eating right and exercising instead of getting down with Absolut. I guess a check is a check.

I wonder what Chuck D would say about it?


(sidebar: is brooklyn the monolith considered a hood? I've only been to crown heights, and fort green and neither was very hoodly)
