I am not a hater or grudge holder generally. but I wasn't the biggest fan of News Corp. even before they housed my former employer. I have a great sixth sense about people and institutions and I always knew that the Bancroft family selling out to Rupert was bad news. He's no Dagny Taggart. Still, every time I see an issue that results in News Corp. losing money a little bit of joy enters my life. MySpace, News of the World, BSkyB, and now Scotland Yard, oh my! Im not a "sports" guy. However, being a Jersey guy, I am a fairly decent Eagles fan. Not necessarily a big NFL fan, nor NFC fan, but when it comes to my birds, I bleed green. So to wake up this morning and learn of our former QB and homeboy McNabb being benched in such a tawdry manner, well, I wanted to shout at somebody about it. I have been a McNabb fan since the day one booing. He, has shown himself to be a man, a role model and a real soldier. When he was drafted to the birds in 1999; rabid and assholish Philly fans booed a cat they didnt even know, cause, they, in their righteous indignance preferred Ricky Williams...Well, we all know how that story went. Donovan didnt wild out or show animous towards the notoriously harsh Philly fans, he instead comported himself with dignity, going on to become one of the NFL's most consistent and premiere threats at QB.

His San Diego classiness, and unwillingness to pull the Negro sass card were refreshing. I haven't seen a pro athlete with his aplomb since Philly's own Dr J. So it was underlying pensiveness that always loomed in the background for me when I thought of the eventual reality that befell many an Eagle before him; that McNabb would eventually be drummed out of town, winding up over there in Randall Cunningham territory. Never quite getting his due. Truth be told, McNabb's stats, records and legacy is better than that of Randall's, but I'll let yall do that research for yourself. (I love them both for the record; a number 12 on my back lies beneath the number 5). .The fact is that it was on his that back the Eagles enjoy perennial success for the majority of a decade. No SB win I know, but the swag of a boss contender with a shot at the SB each year made for awful wise n heimer fans up in the '700's'. McNabb's 7 playoff appearances, 1 superbowl, 6 probowls were certain kisses of death that would result in the unceremonious trade that would send him outta town, a story we are all too familiar with here in the Delaware Valley (umm, Brian's Westbrook and Dawkins anyone?).

And then came Washington. I'm sure Andy Reid thought he was doing a honorable thing by sending McNabb to a 'competitive' team despite that team being in the same division. I'm not totally sure how that whole trade thing works, but I think Reid is pseudo benevolent that way. The way Shanahan has done business with his QB this season is totally inexplicable. I think this blog sums up my ire. I hate to do it, but I have to wonder how much of the racial perception thing plays into the behavior of Washington's VP of foolsball operations and coach.

Not gonna say it. But I certainly am mulling things over in my mind. Its prolly time for Mcnabb to go Negro on em. Cause time after time it certainly does appear that nice guys finish last. Hopefully, McNabb will find work in another city next year that values his ability and class.

Jon Stewart continues to speak to me as the voice of genuine reason in a many heated, but oft skewed analysis. As much as I dont see myself as a pure demo/repub anything; I often feel that he gets it; and for that I fear that others will see me as squarely progressive. Not that there's anything wrong with that; Im just not sure I agree.

The video below is just the type of shit Im talking about. Who the truck knew that the 150th year anniversary of the START of the civil war was coming? Are we memorializing the secession which prompted a war between ourselves where we almost killed one another? I dont keep track of the time me and my sister had that war of words that I thought wouldve triggered the rapture. If she was my brother; we woulda went to blows.

I can't get past the reality of a secession ball; or an antebellum hootenanny; but apparently they'll be all the rage in 2011. Wait? What? WHAT? Me myself, I'm thinking that them cats from young money should show up and perform; to keep it real you know.

I hope someone is keeping track of the m.effers that are attending these events; namely the politicians, newsmakers and socialites; It'll be great fodder the 2012 election cycle.

Today has been the most laziest of Sundays. It rained all night, and has been dreary and like 50 degrees all day. You know; not quite warm; and not quite cold. I look out of my garage office window and I think dank. The peacocks even look drab today. I got home from church, I took like a 3 hour nap. There is much debate on whether the Baraka Flocka Flames video crosses the line or not. Im too lazy to do the analysis; and each time I watch the damn video, I crack up; so that prolly makes me a hypocrite too. I understand why the video is trucked up and unnecessary; but I totally get the parody as well. One of the tidbits of info I wondered from the gate was who put this production together..... Spike's body of work (sans NY Knicks sideline clowism) grants him a serious pass while the jury deliberates on the meaning of this association. Is this that new enterprising capitalism that we see so many 'urban' cats embrace today, or has Spike sold out to the man. At face value, Im not averse to Spike's art and filmographic directing of the campaign. This commercial most def has the bk vibe; so mission accomplished. My gut is that Absolut wanted a real Brooklynite to rep the borough-centric product. I guess Mos Def wasnt available and Jay-z was too expensive.

The debate of course walks along that subtle line that questions the point/motive of hawking products such as alcohol and tobacco in the'hood'. Crown Fried Chicken franchisers need not apply. Those cats (a population that includes me at times) will most certainly ponder why Spike didnt direct a campaign for 'getting learnded' or eating right and exercising instead of getting down with Absolut. I guess a check is a check.
